After an initial tie-up in Singapore five months ago, now WeChat and
Easy Taxi have confirmed that their partnership is rolling to three more
countries – Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
As per a TechinAsia
report, WeChat users in these countries can now book a taxi from within
the messaging app by adding EasyTaxi’s official WeChat account inside
the chat app (Malaysia: easytaximy; Thailand: EasyTaxiThailand; the
Philippines: EasyTaxi_PH).
Started in January 2011, Tencent backed instant messaging app, WeChat
has 468 million monthly active users, and expanded into mobile commerce
and online payments in China earlier this year.
Globally WeChat competes with other instant messaging app like Whatsapp, Telegram, Nimbuzz, Hike, KakaoTalk, Viber, etc.
Two months back, WeChat had reportedly updated with in-store mobile
payments for nine retail chains across China. include DQ ice queen, NUS
pharmacy, Rainbow, One Plus One, Lotus (South China), good neighbors,
Baby Room, Minsheng Department Store and NUS 365.
In July this year, Easy taxi has secured USD 40m in Series D funding
led by the Russian Phenomen Ventures with participation of Tengelmann
Ventures, the investment company of Germany’s multi-sector retailer
Tengelmann Group.
Easy Taxi was founded in Brazil in 2011. It currently operates in 32 countries and 162 cities worldwide.
